Who are your favorite and least favorite country artists?

My favorites are George Strait, Toby Keith, Diamond Rio, and several new artists that I don't even have the names memorized yet. Older artists who are no longer performing, or who don't get any radio air time even though they do still perform live, that I still like include Don Williams, Pam Tillis, Merle Haggart, Lorrie Morgan, Ronnie Milsap, The Statler Brothers, and the Gatlin Brothers.

Singers I can't stand are Shanaya Twain, Shanaya Twain, and did I mention Shanaya Twain?

Cat Lover, I love all the artists you mentioned. I am a big classic country music fan. I do like Toby Keith but not nearly as much as I liked his mid-90's stuff before every song had to be a How Do You Like Me Now sequel. LOL Shania Twain sucks the big one and she is on the radio every hour here in Canada. She has two songs, the fast one and the slow one. Am I wrong? LOL George Strait and Alan Jackson are awesome. Randy Travis. Awesome. I could go on and on.

I also love Reba but forgot to mention her. I also like Brad Paisley and most of the others you both like. I also forgot Alan Jackson. I didn't used to like him as much, but I have liked his stuff from the last few years. And I love the way he comes across on the award shows he has been on. He is so humble. And I agree about Toby Keith. I liked him better when he was not quite so popular. I like some of his newer stuff but prefer his older stuff. And I think he has gotten very conceited and full of himself. And not that I'm not patriotic, but I'd like to see him stop recording those "Love America or leave it" type of songs.

I have to admit, I despise the song Whiskey Girl and always have. Should Have Been a Cowboy eaa Toby Keith was much better!

I don't know if I have a favorite country artist or group. I find myself liking the older country, from late 80s through early 90s, as well as some classic country. I don't mind Tom T. Hall, George Strait, some Buck Owens, The Statler Brothers and Oak Ridge Boys. The newer country sounds more like rock than Country. The song by George strait and Alan Jackson about sums it up, Murder on Music Row, from a few years ago. IT's the truth what that song says. I don't know what the big deal is about some of the newer artists. There is this one song Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy or something like that, which I think sucks.

Murder on Music Row. That is a very truthful song. I do like the Big and Rich song you mentioned, but I hate Grethhen Wilson's Here for the Party. Didn't like Redneck Woman either but I could tolerate it. But I mean, a lot of today's stuff will never stand the test of time and has no place on a country radio, based on 60 years of country music history. I do like a lot of the new stuff, but a lot of it sure makes you shake your head.

I have been a country music fan for about five or six years. I particularly like keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Diamond Rio, Allan Jackson, Sarah Evans and Martina McBride. I really dislike Toby Keith. I do not particularly care for Gretchen Wilson, especially "redneck woman".

I love a few country people. Billy Gilman, Martina McBride, Shaniah Twain (sorry don't know how to spell it lol), Jessica Andrews, etc.

hey hey :) i was brought up on country music with my Dad listening to nothing else. he doesn't care for anything else so I naturally loved it growing up, and I still love it even though when I became a teenager I branched off into other music and it was a running joke at the time that it was "not on" cos I'd been like dad's country music listening partner for so long. In fact, I kinda felt guilty or something cos I felt that the bond may disappear but yeah .. as weird as it may sound, I found it hard to admit to myself and him that I was actually starting to get into other music. but I still love country music now (certainly not all, but most). It could be said that now I like such a variety of music, I surprise people but all in all listening to a good al country song always brings back so many memories of certain events in my childhood.
Rock on country! :)

Hey guys,

I'm another Country fan. I'm more into songs than artists but some artists I enjoy primarily are: Leanne Rhymes, Shania Twain, George Straight, the Dixy Chicks and Toby Keeth, and for the Aussies, Darren Coggan and Troy Cassadaily.

You guys have not done justice to Keith Urban. He's amazing, and his lyrics are usually his lyrics! Not something written by someone else. That's my only complaint about country music, it seems that more and more, artists are singing the work of others instead of writing their own. Don't get me wrong, I love country music. It's all I listen to. I love Keith Urban most of all. I've met him twice, and I have a picture of the two of us! I also really like Kenny Chesney, I enjoy some of Toby Keith's older stuff. Grechen Wilson generally revolts me. I'm a fan of Big and Rich. I enjoy George Straight, Neal Mc'coy, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, Keith Anderson, Katrina Elam, Miranda Lamberg... wow so many! I like most of Alan Jackson's stuff, but the repair blues or whatever it is just doesn't do anything for me. um... I think that's about it.

well, I like everyone mentioned here, but I've yet to see Trisha Yearwood's name up here. Therefore, I'll add it now! LOL

I too was raised on country, and still love it though I've branched into more. *smile* I think I like most artests, though I may not like all their songs. For instants with Gretchen Wilson...I like Home Wrecker, but can't stand Redneck Woman. LOL And there is one artest I absolutely hate...And that is, Willy Nelson. I think I can tollerate like 2 songs of his. LOL.

Ah, fellow hicks, rednecks, and other assorted backwoods types for me to chat with! I love it. My interest in country developed in the mid nineties, so my favorite singers are folks like Clay Walker, Ty Herndon, early Toby Keith, John Anderson, John Michael Montgomery, and so on. But my absolute favorite in country music has to be Diamond Rio, for not only does Marty row have an amazingly versatile, flexible, and soothing voice, he's young and eligible as well! I'm also a fan of Black Hawk, early Tim McGraw, and John Berry.

Post 23 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Tuesday, 27-Sep-2005 6:50:10

I agree about Diamond Rio. They are so under rated it's unbelievable. They never win awards or even get nominated very often, yet they have the best voices and harmony of any act out there.

Post 24 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Tuesday, 27-Sep-2005 9:16:07

hmmmm, guess I will have to dig up some diamond reo then. I like country well I like just about everything but I do listen to country the most!
even while working out! I think country music tells a story of either how life used to be or what it can be like! some of it can even be inspiring.

Post 25 by Leafs Fan (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 27-Sep-2005 10:38:22

Interesting, my country music love developed around that exact time period also, although it has now grown to encompass the classics from all eras.
